About the Presentation

For many centuries, cloistered communities in the East and West have been the primary centres of contemplative living.  Fewer such communities exist today, yet many people with similar inclinations are functioning in the everyday world.  What is contemplation? What does it mean to adopt a contemplative life?  And how is it possible to live in such a way within the contemporary world?  This presentation will look at the characteristics of a contemplative community, stages of the meditation process which lead to contemplation, and some practical suggestions for living more contemplatively in the everyday world.

About the Presenter

Linda Oliveira is a former International Vice-President of the Theosophical Society.  She is currently the National President of the Australian Section as well as the editor of Theosophy in Australia.  Linda joined the Society in 1971 after hearing some talks by the philosopher, J. Krishnamurti.  She is passionate about Theosophy because of its potential to profoundly transform an individual when reflected upon deeply, and practised with heart and mind.
