What is Spiritual Materialism? There is a strong tendency in almost all of us to want to acquire something through our spiritual practice, to want to get something. It's a kind of mistaken belief that there's something we are going to get from Awakening. Probably the most easily recognizable form this takes is just wanting spiritual experiences, wanting to reach a special state of consciousness where we just feel beyond wonderful all the time. However, spiritual awakening is not about acquiring something but transcending the very part of us that thinks it needs something.
